Belk today is celebrating the completion of a $3.8 million expansion at Colonial Pinnacle at Turkey Creek, where the company now operates two adjacent locations.
The men’s and home merchandise is now housed in a new 30,000-square-foot store that opened in March.
The remaining women’s and children’s merchandise has been expanded throughout the existing 74,349-square-foot space at 11417 Parkside Drive. A re-grand opening celebration was held Tuesday.
Store manager Scott Ratarsky said the store outgrew its space and Belk couldn’t expand its existing store because it was right on the Knoxville-Farragut border.
He said the new men’s and home store is about 30 to 40 yards from the old store, but it is in Farragut city limits.
“The store did so well, we added more and more merchandise,” Ratarsky said. “The store soon became too small for us, which is a good thing.”
Belk Senior Vice President of Stores Gary Siler said the company has slowed down the opening of new locations due to the current economy, but is still expanding in markets such as Knoxville, which it considers healthy.
